The Essence of Nature
Highlights of the external packaging changes are a new font for the product name and other details on the front and rear of the sleek new bag. At the same time, the colors were adjusted to be more natural, and “comfortably elegant,” says to Gonzalez.
“Most noticeable, is the exciting introduction of a signature background design employing the striations of a vivid green banana leaf,” she added, noting that a plantain is from banana family, but they are starchier and lower in sugar with a different culinary use.
The company chose to use the banana leaf overlay to better represent the true essence of the product while also calling out to the consumer. The colors still jump out, which is important for a snack brand, but the banana overlay offers a constant allusion to natural aspects of the product – and the fact that Prime Planet uses fewer ingredients than other pop snack.
So what different from the previous iteration of the packaging? According to Gonzalez, the first step was to recognize what not to change, a ‘don’t-fix-it-if-it’s-not broken approach.’”
“We were smart of keep OUR optimum package qualities like its trusty durability, and popular and practical zip-lock feature for longer life.” They also retained the existing same size and dimension of the bag.
“And, of course, it’s the same great quality chip inside.”
And while this all-natural snack chip is renowned for what’s in it, it’s also about what’s not in it. Prime Planet Tostones have no added sugars or preservatives, and are certified non-GMO, gluten free, and low sodium, among other healthier-for-you qualities.
Back to Nature
It all ties back to nature, says Gonzalez, “The prominent use of the colors yellow and green – drives the product’s allure back to the source – earth and plantains.”
In utilizing the services of a prominent design firm, Prime Planet gave them a mission to change and refresh the package to accelerate the evolution of the product to become more of an American style snack.
“Our Tostones have made a very successful crossover in recent years from the ethnic section of supermarkets to the being mainstream snack aisle in stores all across the country,” says Gonzalez.
“And so, after reviewing their exciting new concepts for a refreshed and refined design, and ultimately approving their spot-on recommendations, we entered production and now the new bags are making their way out into the world.”
First to hit the market is the newly designed Original Flavor packaging this summer.
Next up, the bags containing our Lime Flavor chips, followed by the Sweet Chile variety and Habanero flavored chips, which will be released just in time for the end-of-year holidays.
Designers also recommended using the new banana leaf concept on in-store displays as well integrating it across all the Prime Planet’s digital and social media platforms.

Going forward, Prime Planet as a brand will continue to pursue opportunities to grow partnerships with many of the biggest names in retail food distribution, in order to make its outstanding product available in multiple new markets nationwide.
